PURBECK PLAYERS AUTUMN NEWS LETTER
So here we are autumn already! OK, so it is still August, but it FEELS
like autumn. The end of another hectic summer season, and what a busy
one it was to with 3 major productions culminating in the most enjoyable
“Treasure Island”. As everyone knows it is very difficult
to organise the summer show as it falls at such a busy time of year
for us seaside folk, so it was great to see loads of enthusiasm and
so many new faces. The audiences loved it and so did Linda Kirkman who
gave us a glowing review, as did George, “a triumph now!”.
A very BIG thank you to everyone who gave up their precious time and
energy whether on stage or off, especially Brenda and Brian for undertaking
such a huge task. And now some important dates for your diary.......................
This years autumn production will be two, one act plays by Terrance
Rattigan, The Browning Version and Harliquinade which will take place
on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th Nov. There is a read through at the arts
centre on Tues. Sept. 4th at 7.30pm for an 8pm start and auditions will
be held at the arts centre on Thurs. 6th Sept at 8pm.
THE BROWNING VERSION : CAST LIST
In order of appearance
John Taplow 16yrs plain, “moon faced” boy with glasses.
Frank Hunter 30’s -40’s a “rugged” young man.
Millie Crocker -Harris 30’s -40’s a “thin” woman
smartly dressed.
Andrew Crocker -Harris 50’s -60’s neat, complacent, unruffled.
Dr. Frobisher 50 + distinguished “diplomat”, Dr. Of Literature
and classical scholar.
Mr. Gilbert 20’s smartly dressed, uncertain.
Mrs. Gilbert 20’s sweet, overwhelmed.
The action takes place in the sitting room of the Crocker - Harris’s
flat at a public school in the south of England in the 1950’s.
HARLIQUINADE : CAST LIST
Arthur Gosport 50’ - 60’s an actor of the old school.
Edna Selby 50’s -60’s an actress of the old school.
Johnny 30’s - 40’s youngish, the prompter and technician.
Dame Maude Gosport 60’s + an imposing elderly lady and an actress
of the old school.
Jack Wakefield 20’s + young “grave faced” man. The
stage manager.
George Chudleigh 60’s an actor of the old school.
First Halberdier 20’s keen young spear carrying actor.
Second Halberdier 20’s keen young spear carrying actor.
Miss. Fishlock 50’s smart, efficient, company secretary.
Fred Ingram 40’s an exasperated actor.
Muriel Palmer 20’s a nondescript, shabbily dressed girl.
Tom Palmer 30’s a soldier in uniform.
Mr. Burton 40’s theatre manager, as exasperated as the actors!
Joyce Langland 20’s very good looking, smartly dressed.
Policeman 40’s firm, measured tread, a Mr. Plod.
On Friday 5th Oct. And Sat. 6th Oct. There will be a “Food for
Thought” evening where you can partake of supper and entertainment,
including an excerpt from “The Hollow Crown” produced by
Tony Hessey and a play produced by Dot Titley. Everybody welcome please
come along. Ticket bookings and prices to follow soon.
Hopefully we will be organising play reading evenings at the Arts Centre
in the near future and I will advise you when we have a firm date for
the first one. If you have a play that you would like to read at one
of these evenings please contact a member of the committee.
Exciting news soon on events for Christmas.........I know, I know but
it’s only a few months away!
Also a reminder to all those who haven’t paid their subs yet.
Remember you need Arts Club membership for insurance purposes whether
you are on stage or working backstage. Payments can be left at Wilcox
and Cook or taken to Pete at Caythorpe House.
